Online Barcode Generator
Enter the identifier exactly as it should be scanned. Code 128 is a useful starting point for ordinary ASCII text, while retail labels often require EAN-13 or UPC-A. The preview updates after editing. Invalid input produces an error instead of a downloadable image. You can keep the human-readable value beneath the bars or hide it, but printed text does not replace a scanner test.
Supported Barcode Formats
This barcode maker supports Code 128, Code 39, EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8 and ITF-14. Code 39 has a restricted character set and is best entered in uppercase. EAN and UPC accept numeric identifiers with format-specific lengths and checksums. A check digit can detect some typing errors, but it does not establish that an identifier belongs to a particular product. Use Load example after changing the format to see a valid sample.
How to Generate a Barcode
Choose the symbology required by the receiving system before entering data. For example, the sample EAN-13 value 5901234123457 includes a check digit. Keep leading zeros because barcode identifiers are strings, not quantities. Adjust width and height, inspect the displayed value, and download the image. SVG retains vector bars for scaling; PNG is a raster image at the selected pixel dimensions.
Barcode Size, Quiet Zones and Scanning
The white space beside a barcode is its quiet zone. This generator reserves margins around the bars; avoid cropping them or placing nearby text inside them. Narrow bars can disappear when printed too small, and image resampling can blur edges. Use black bars on a white background, preserve proportions and test at the final physical size. Scanner type, printer resolution, media and the destination's standards determine the usable dimensions.
Barcode vs QR Code
A linear barcode stores data across a row of bars and spaces. A QR code uses a two-dimensional grid and can hold longer payloads such as URLs. Choose the format the scanner and business workflow expect. A barcode image does not create an inventory record, verify ownership or make an arbitrary identifier valid for a retailer. Use QR Code Generator for a fixed URL and Random Number Generator only when a random value is appropriate for your own test system.

Frequently asked questions
Which barcode formats are supported?
Code 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 39, EAN-8 and ITF-14 are available in the format selector.
How do I create a barcode from a number or text?
Choose a format, enter a compatible value, adjust bar dimensions and download the preview. Leading zeros are preserved. Load example shows valid input for the selected format.
What is the difference between UPC, EAN and Code 128?
UPC-A uses a 12-digit retail identifier and EAN-13 uses 13 digits, including their check digits. Code 128 supports ASCII text and is used in many logistics and internal labeling workflows. Use the format required by the receiving system.
Can I download the barcode image?
Yes. Download SVG for a vector image or PNG for a raster image. Preserve quiet zones and test the exported image with your scanner.
Is barcode data uploaded?
No. The barcode image is generated in your browser. The entered data is not uploaded.
